Welcome to Axis…

Jorge Castro Cabrera | Accredited Exercise Physiologist (BHMS/MExPhys)

Axis Exercise Physiology believes that exercise intervention at the correct intensity and duration, not only improves quality of life but can decrease the incidence and help manage many health conditions such as obesity, heart disease, dementia, and mental health.

What is an Exercise Physiologist?

Accredited exercise physiologists specialise in clinical exercise interventions for people with a broad range of health issues. Those people may be at risk of developing, or have existing, medical conditions and injuries. The aims of exercise physiology interventions are to prevent or manage acute, sub- acute or chronic disease or injury, and assist in restoring one’s optimal physical function, health, or wellness.

Interventions are exercise-based and include health and physical activity education, advice, and support for lifestyle modification with a strong focus on achieving behavioural change.

“Alistair and I have been seeing Jorge as part of an exercise programme for older people. We are enjoying our time with Jorge, we didn’t think exercise would be as encouraging as it is. Jorge has our programme all worked out each week, gently pushing our boundaries with exercise and good humour. We follow up our sessions at home with our programme on the computer. We are about half way through our 12 week programme and would recommend it, we can feel the difference.”

“When I first got referred to see Jorge I was hesitant to exercise, I thought I needed to be huffing and puffing or to be push to the extreme, Jorge has made such a difference on how I see exercises now, he really take his time to explain the what, how and why part of the exercises he gives me at the gym and at home. Thank you.”

“Since coming to see Jorge at Axis I have found that my regular walking has improved a lot, I can now walk at a faster pace than I did before engaging in exercise with Jorge. It has made significant difference in my daily activities Jorge knows what I like and don’t like and he really tailored the exercises to me, and pushes me when working with me. I really enjoyed the private 1:1 sessions at Axis.”

“Being a "senior" I don't like visiting the big gyms as they are too daunting. I find Jorges workplace to be ideal. Jorge listens to what you want to achieve and plans a workout accordingly. I have been going to him for 8 weeks and he has improved my balance and strength immensely. He has a friendly and easy-going nature, and I would recommend him to others seeking to improve their fitness.”
